Back where it all began - Shingle Street, 17 August 2024

Just over 3 years ago, just after purchasing our motorhome we spent our first night in it - at Shingle Street on the Suffolk coast. Full of trepidation, still having to get to grips with how everything worked and wondering if we were really allowed to wild camp there it was the very start of our journey. A couple of near misses on the road on the way only added to our feeling of 'have we done the right thing'!

3 years on and we can answer that with a resounding yes! Yet we still feel like we are near the start of our journey and are learning all the time. The van has a few scratches on she didn't have back then but is still looking good - and of course we have tried to improve it and make it our own home on wheels.

So, we spent a lovely afternoon and evening yesterday in this out of the way part of the Suffolk coast. It has always had a rather special atmosphere about it, down a dead end road by the marshes with extensive shingle 'deserts', brooding martello towers and absolutely no facilities for tourists. Just how we like it!

Walks, nature, a bbq, a cheeky shiraz and a sunset made it a lovely relaxed visit and a timely reminder of just how fabulous and liberating vanlife can be.
