A weekend in West Norfolk, 23 - 24 September 2023

Last week while out and about I 'found' a lovely little spot for an off-grid motorhome stay. So I took Belinda out there this weekend to enjoy some autumn walking and a touch of van life.

The spot is between West Acre and Castle Acre and I later discovered it's listed on Park 4 Nite. It gets 5 star reviews to which I wholeheartedly agree. The small carpark is nowhere near any houses, is quiet, level, has a new surface and wheelie bins. Thank you West Acre Parish Council!

There is a picturesque ford just 200 yards away and lovely woodland walks to both West Acre in one direction and Castle Acre in the other. We enjoyed a couple of days exploring all the local footpaths, nature and castle/priory ruins of which the area has plenty. The friendly Stag pub in West Acre is highly recommended and not far to walk from the overnight spot. Castle Acre also has a pub (The Ostrich) and a cafe.

One thing we learned this weekend was that the money we spent on a thermal windscreen cover for the van (designed to cut down on windscreen condensation) may have been a waste of money. We did experience any overnight condensation anyway and if we had used the cover we'd have had a wet cover to sort out as it showered with rain for a few minutes early on Sunday morning! Time will tell and it maybe that it will be more useful in the winter. To an extent this motorhoming lark is about trial and error and finding out what works for you. On the upside our rear-view parking camera that had stopped working has suddenly started working again!
